Hello there! I am so happy to be sharing my first blog post as a member of the Brutus Monroe 2021 Inspiration Team! Today’s card was made using the Space Flight dies. I had so much fun with this card and used all kinds of goodies from Brutus Monroe – glitter glaze, chroma mists, embossing powder and more!
The first thing I did was decide how I wanted to make the rocket ship – I used the sterling embossing powder to add some texture to the Sterling Silver Elegant Essentials Cardstock. It was super easy and I loved how it turned out! All I did was gently tap the ink pad directly to the silver Cardstock and then add sterling embossing powder and heat set. This added a cool and random texture to the Cardstock while really helped set off the rocket. I cut out the rest of the small pieces from patterned paper and foiled the flame pieces!
Next, onto the background! I used the Rainbow Spiral stencil to create the focal point of the background. This stencil was so cool to use! The first step was to use Distress Oxide inks to blend through the stencil to make the spiral – blue, blue, purple and repeat until the entire spiral is complete. It looked cool just like that, but I thought it would be neat to spritz some Chroma Mists over the coordinating colors. For this, I just put the stencil back over with the area I wanted to spray showing through the opening and give it a few sprays! I did this in a splat box and made sure to wipe the stencil down in between so I didn’t transfer colors where I didn’t want it. The Chroma Mists reacted beautifully with the Distress Oxides!
The next step was to add some sparkle! I used the Galaxy Glitter Glaze over the alternating blue inked sections. This part did take a little while, because I had to let the Glitter Glaze dry before moving onto the next section. But it was totally worth it!
I used a big circle die to cut the spiral out so there was no white left around the edges. This was then mounted onto an A2 sized piece of Blue Ribbon Cardstock that I sprayed with the Lilac Purple and Cobalt Blue Chroma Mists. I trimmed off the edges of the spiral that were hanging off of the card base to finish it off.
A sentiment from the Reach for the Stars stamp set was embossed using Alabaster embossing powder on the Blue Ribbon Cardstock and fussy cut out. I then used the Easy Tab Black Foam Dots to pop up the rocket ship and sentiment, and finished the card off with some coordinating sequins.
